Axle Lathe
Task-
To remanufacture, upgrade and CNC retrofit a 4 axis manual Axle Lathe.
Solution-
The machine was completely stripped upon arrival at our facility. Only the
base, headstocks and saddles were retained as part of the new system.
The completed system will be a 4 axis, dual process CNC with all new
drives and electrical.

The machine base way system was replaced with new linear roller guide
ways. The “Z” axis carriages were machined to accept new way system.
Individual precision ballscrew drives were installed for each of the
carriages. These ballscrews are driven by a planetary gear reducer and
digital servo motor. New linear roller guide ways were installed on top of
the carriages to support the cross slides.

New cross slides were manufactured to interface to the machine
carriages. Individual precision ballscrew drives were installed for each of
the cross slides. These ballscrews are driven by digital servo motors.
Work piece measuring probe assemblies were also incorporated onto the
cross slides. Automatic 8 position tool turrets were installed.

A new CNC (4) axis control was interfaced to control all functions of the
machine.
